FAQs

WORKSHOPS

How do I sign up for a workshop?

You can sign up online by clicking on the workshop you want and follow the instructions for sign up. Feel free to email for alternative payment options such as cash, check, and Venmo.

How do I schedule a private event?

Email to inquire.

I am not an artist. Are these workshops for me?

Yes! Yes! Yes! We choose classes and instructors that are open and approachable for all levels of creatives. Delany Arts was created for the creative at heart and the formally trained artist.

Collaboration in art is what drives us and it is at the core of the studio. Often times you will learn a great deal not only from the instructor but the creatives in class with you.

What are the ages of workshop participants?

Generally, each open enrollment class will be geared for a specific age group. We have after school workshops for elementary, middle, and high school, workshops for those of us aged 18 to 118, and also mixed age. See class details for more information. Same for private events — my favorite private events are groups of adults but events for kids 10+ are welcome. Get a group together for a night out. The studio opens up to the patio and garden and is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Yarmouth eateries on Main Street. It’s really fun!

What kinds of workshops do you teach?

The classes vary from collage to alcohol inks, textiles to water color. They are taught by some of the best Maine artists and makers. Don’t see something that peaks your interest? Reach out, let’s talk.

How do I find out about upcoming workshops and events?

Leave your email address to stay connected. Follow me on Instagram @delanyarts and Facebook Delany Arts. Checking in on the Workshop page from time to time also works.

I know a kiddo who would love to attend one of your workshops but their family can’t swing the fee right now. Is there anything you can do to help these kiddos enroll?

Absolutely. Reach out. 90% of the time we will be able to find space for them.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

Cancellation policies are necessary here in the studio for a few reasons. One is that the small class size we need to reach a minimum for us to bring in the funds needed to pay for materials, prep and instructor hours. Beyond the actual class time, prep and finishing time is significant so it is important for Delany Arts to make sure our instructors are well paid for all of the time they put in to running a great class - travel time, prep time, class time and finishing time while also ensuring overhead for the space is covered.

Our policy:

Full refunds minus 10% for cancellations prior to 7 days until class start.

No refund for cancellations within 7 days before class start.

Thank you for understanding!

Ceramics Tuition Breakdown

Here is a little breakdown about cost. During class time students will learn about the intricacies of these elements of successful ceramic making.

Clay: the cornerstone material for ceramics, we supply each student with a 25lb bag of stoneware clay. We also provide the opportunity to work with a different clay type for students to experience a different texture and firing outcome.

Time: here in the studio students have 3 hours of class time, but behind the scenes our instructors do a lot of work to ensure class is ready to go and to give student’s pieces the best chance to be completely finished without cracks and broken bits. This means monitoring pieces to ensure they are drying evenly. Humidity, temperature, and thickness of clay are all elements that can affect outcomes. Although successful outcomes are never guaranteed in ceramics, we take time to check student’s pieces daily between classes.

Firings: Each piece is fired twice in a high quality electric kiln that is meticulously cared for. The first firing is to 1900°F. The second firing is to 2800°F. Both of these kilns take an hour to load properly and about 45 minutes to unload. Each firing takes about two days. Unless there are special circumstances beyond our control, we will do our best to make sure pieces are fired in a timely manner. Bisqued pieces will be ready to work on during the 6-week class while finished pieces should take 2-3 weeks after the last class.

Glazes: Glazes are one of the most expensive materials. Here in the studio we offer a large selection of underglazes for students to work with along with various clear and colored glazes to finish pieces off.

All materials are provided in order to give total transparency when it comes to how much a class costs. We have tools for you to use here at the studio, however, we do encourage students to purchase a simple kit once they get going to ensure they have access to the tools they need when they need them, details will be given during Class 1.

Let’s breakdown the numbers:

At the end of the 6 weeks, students will receive 24 hours of instruction and the teacher will have put in another 10-12 hours to help you make the best pieces you can.

The hourly breakdown for a $425 class comes out to $17.70/hour/student with materials included!
